    Column by Geoff Hammond

    Gentlemen, start your engines!

That’s the sound millions around North America love to hear. In fact, whether at the track or in front of their televisions, they follow every turn and every winner. But the driver pulling into the winner’s circle is just the culmination of months, and sometimes years, of preparation. That’s how it is with our Southern Baptist volunteer missions. Whether it’s World Changers, PowerPlant, Families on Mission, Disaster Relief or a host of other opportunities, there’s a place for you right in the middle of the action. With so many different volunteer opportunities, there is no excuse why you can’t get out there and serve in a long or short-term mission endeavor.

The question is, are you ready?

I’ve had the privilege as president of your North American Mission Board of seeing and hearing first hand the riveting stories of God at work throughout this mission field called North America. These past few months I’ve had the privilege of seeing first hand how God is using Southern Baptist volunteers of all ages. Thousands of volunteers, from hundreds of churches, have invested weeks of their lives in serving others… in the name and love of the Lord Jesus Christ. And by their own testimonies, many did it for the main reason of sharing their faith. Imagine if God were able to use you in the same way to see a life given to Jesus right before your eyes.

The question is, are you ready?

The miracles on the mission fields of North America didn’t just happen in a moment. These dedicated volunteers didn’t just decide one morning to get up and head to a disaster relief or mission site. No, there was much prayer and preparation. That’s why I really like the title of this issue of On Mission, “Ready, Set, Go”. You may be dreaming right now of all the different ways God could use you and your specific gifts. You may have something in mind right now for you or your church as you read this article. That’s great!

Just one final question, are you ready?
