This past November, my sons camped outside an electronics store to take advantage of the after-Thanksgiving sales, along with hundreds of other bargain hunters. One of their purchases was a small GPS for the family. I am amazed at how well this little gadget works. It connects with overhead satellites and in an instant can tell me where I am and how to get to where I need to go.
At this year’s Annual SBC Convention, the North American Mission Board will be introducing another GPS for Southern Baptists. It is a part of the National Evangelism Initiative and the GPS stands for: God’s Plan for Sharing. What we mean by this is that God’s plan for sharing really is… “Every Believer Sharing and Every Person Hearing.” Jesus said, “ As you go make disciples,” (Matthew 28:19). As we go through the journey of our earthly life, we constantly discover that the Lord has positioned us to share the good news with those who still need to be saved. North America is now, more than ever, a mission field. The nations have become our neighbors, and we can share the good news of God’s love and tell them how they can get where they need to go—Heaven—through the work of Christ on the cross.
This initiative is for every one of us and all of our churches. It is a simple, multifaceted approach that follows the evangelism process:
Praying – Every church and member praying for lost people
Engaging – Every believer sharing as a trained witness
Sowing – Every lost person receiving a witness
Harvesting – Every church harvesting and celebrating every salvation response
NAMB will provide a menu of resources to assist you with every step of this process. Let’s begin by praying for our neighbors, our communities, and our counties. We can change the future direction of the United States and Canada if we all connect with God’s Plan for Sharing.
So power up! Plan your route, and let’s take this journey together!
