Clear plan for apologetics- based evangelism
Easy-to-read handling of a potentially difficult subject
Great advice from someone who has "been there"
According to Dan Story, many modern evangelism methods present the practical applications of Christianity such as peace with God, constant friendship with Him and answers to prayer. This approach deals with the question, "Does Christianity work?"
Dan Story draws from a different well in his book Christianity on the Offense, choosing to pursue the long heritage of evangelistic outreach based not on "Does Christianity work?" but "Is Christianity true?"
While some would argue that in the postmodern world, such Truth-based evangelism is outdated, Story presents a different view: "It is virtually impossible to share the positive elements of Christianity without contrasting them with the negative elements of non-Christian worldviews. Error is more clearly seen when contrasted with truth."
With that goal in mind, Story lays out a plan for understanding the error in non-Christian thinking, covering the gamut from atheism to agnosticism to pantheism, and gives a method for effectively reaching out (in love, not just for the sake of argument) to those trapped in such views.
Taking his cue from "the truth shall set you free" Story divides the book into two parts. The first part deals with the nature of truth and learning how to measure it. Part two covers the practical applications of looking at religious views (including Christianity) and seeing how they stack up against reasonable truth. It's Story's firm belief that only Christianity can stand up in the face of truth and that all other belief systems fail under that scrutiny.
In Christianity on the Offense, Story covers heavy topics in an understandable way. For those whose on mission lifestyle takes them into contact with people who are willing to discuss the truth and effectiveness of Christianity, there's a lot to be learned in Christianity on the Offense.
