Personal evangelism involves building relationships
Challenge your friends to read the Bible with you
Let the Bible provide the answersnot you
Evangelism for the FaintheartedUpdated Edition (Original copyright 1991) by Floyd Schneider Kregel Publications 2000 220 pages
If you are looking for a book with all the answers, you wont find it here. Schneider declares that it is not his job (or ours) to provide the answers for unsaved friends. Rather, we should be encouraging them to read the Bible with us and discover the answers for themselves.
This proven evangelistic approach has several advantages. Christians do not need to have all the answers before they begin. We will be relying on the living Word of God rather than our own words to convict and draw our friends to the Lord. Also, this will establish a healthy habit of Bible study for new believers.
Schneiders book is a great guide for the fainthearted, but dont be misled by the title. He himself does not seem to fall into this category! His boldness in challenging the beliefs and values of his acquaintances is based on his study of Jesus Christs own teaching methods. When people came to Jesus with questions He seldom offered simple and polite answers. Many times He responded to questions with a question of his own. If He detected a spirit of pride or arrogance in the question, his reply was more likely to produce irritation than satisfaction. Jesus did not attempt to provide comprehensible answers until He had raised the curiosity level of seekers and led them into asking the right questions. Schneider models this evangelistic style. He reminds us that our goal is to challenge our friends to read the Bible with us and then allowing the Word of God to do its work in their lives.
