  • Want to be sure word of your VBS reaches the unchurched children--and parents--of your community? Consider the following promotion ideas other churches have found to be successful:

    • Take advantage of free announcements in your local newspaper (try the Community Calendar or Religion sections)

    • Inform child care centers

    • Use grocery store bulletin boards

    • Tack up postings at local parks or swimming pools

    • Display yard signs

    • Send direct mail to families who live around your church

    • Distribute fliers in apartment complexes, trailer parks and neighborhoods

    • Hold a series of backyard Bible clubs in the weeks leading up to your VBS, and invite those who attend

    • Let Sunday school children decorate paper shopping bags to announce the VBS, and ask local grocery stores to distribute them to customers

    • Send invitations to church prospect lists

    • Use magnetic car signs

    • Imprint wrist bands for children and youth to wear and give away

    • Conduct a telephone blitz

    • Sponsor a poster contest and place winning entries at local businesses

    • Post announcements in civic club newsletters

Be sure that all of your promotions clearly state the times, location and how to get further information about your Vacation Bible School.
