Shows how scholarly research supports the essence of the Bible
Is the Bible True? How Modern Debates and Discoveries Affirm the Essence of the ScripturesBy Jeffery L. Sheler Zondervan/HarperCollins 1999 278 pages
When Jeffery L. Sheler, religion writer for U.S. News & World Report, set out to investigate the authenticity of the Bible, he didnt find any easy answers.
He did find that, while some scientific discoveries may challenge our understanding of the Bible, on the whole science and scholarly debate have consistently and substantially confirmed [the Bible] as a credible and reliable source of history. He also observes that the true message of the Bible can be neither proved nor disproved by scientific methods.
Sheler concentrates on five areas of biblical scholarship, specifically: history, archaeology, the Dead Sea Scrolls, the quest for the historical Jesus, and finally, debunking the Bible Code phenomenon.
