    Reinventing Evangelism
    By Donald C. Posterski
    InterVarsity Press
    202 pages
    1989

In this unique look at witnessing, Donald Posterski avoids the four-point, memorized plan approach to witnessing and opts for something he believes is more effective—conversations and relationships that take place in a non-Christian’s comfort zone. Jesus’ encounter with Zaccheus is described as a prototype for effective witnessing today: “[Jesus] took time to be with Zaccheus. Instead of saying, ‘Come with me, there is a special event at my church’ (which is really an invitation to go where Christians are most comfortable), Jesus reversed the norm and surrendered Himself to the circumstances where Zaccheus was most at ease.”

Posterski also exposes the reality some Christians would like to ignore: that we are living in a society that believes God is optional if not unnecessary.

He reminds us that people today need to see hard evidence that following Jesus makes a real difference in life. And that evidence can only be found in positive, personal experiences with people who do know Him. “Witnessing effectively is not just dispensing information,” writes the author. “It is making meaning out of the whole of life.”

Reinventing Evangelism is filled with real conversations—from Jesus, Posterski and friends—that serve as examples of how to engage a non-Christian in conversation about spiritual things. This book is a very useful tool in developing a lifestyle of sharing the goodness of following Christ with people who do not understand it.

Posterski challenges Christians to share Christ naturally in a hostile world and then provides the way to do it safely and effectively.
