isaiah 9:6-7

For a child will be born for us, a son will be given to us, and the government will be on His shoulders. He will be named
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.

The dominion will be vast, and its prosperity will never end. He will reign on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish and sustain it with justice and righteousness from now on and forever. The zeal of the Lord of Hosts will accomplish this.

I. the announcement of his nativity

A. His Humanity "a child is born"

B. His Humility "a son is given"

C. His Hope "the government will be upon His shoulder"

II. the announcement of his name

A. An Astonishing Name "wonderful"

B. An Astute Name "counselor"

C. An Almighty Name "mighty God"

D. An Authoritative Name "everlasting father"

E. An Able Name "prince of peace"

III. the announcement of his nature

A. An Effective Nature "increase of His government and peace"

B. An Eternal Nature "there shall be no end"

C. A Royal Nature "upon the throne of David, and upon His kingdom"

D. A Righteous Nature "to order it, and to establish it with judgment and justice"

E. A Zealous Nature "the zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this"

The church then had peace throughout Judea, Galilee, and Samaria, and it grew in strength and numbers. The believers were walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit.

Jesus did it. Robert E. Lee did it. MacArthur did it. We must do it. Do what? Multiply leadership. An organization, an army, a church will never reach its maximum potential until everyone knows their individual role as it relates to the whole body and achieves it. The answer is not simply in delegation…the answer is in mutual responsibility, mutual sacrifice and mutual leadership. 

I. The New Testament Church today is governed by Christ.

A. The Authority of Christ (Ephesians 1:22)

B. The Head of the Church (Colassians 1:18)

C. The Shepherd of the Church (1 Peter 2:25)

II. The New Testament Church today is guided by its ministers.

A. Equipping God's People (Ephesians 4:11-13) 

B. Servants and Stewards (1 Corinthians 4:1)

III. The New Testament Church today is guarded by its elders. (Titus 1:9)

A. A Trustworthy Message

B. An Encouragement to Others

C. Right Teaching

IV. The New Testament Church today is gifted by its members. (1 Corinthians 12:4-7)

A. Different Kinds of Gifts

B. Different Kinds of Service

1. Serve where you can, but do all you can. (Obedience to God is essential.)

2. Support your staff

C. Unity of Purpose

D. Diversity in Function

E. Faithfulness and Commitment
