Parents wishing to pass along a strong, spiritual heritage to their children will find Family Night Tool Chest a valuable resource. Jim Weidmann and Kurt Bruner have compiled a series of family-tested material offering a fun, focused time in which parents can pass along spiritual truths to children. Book One, An Introduction to Family Nights, covers basics of the Christian faith and Christian character qualities. Basic Christian Beliefs are discussed further in Book Two.

Each session contains activities, scripture reading, questions, age appropriate ideas and more. In one example discussing the taming of the tongue, Weidmann encourages his children to squeeze all the toothpaste from the tubes they are given. Okay, says Dad, slapping a $10 bill onto the table. The first person to get the toothpaste back into the tube gets this money! Little hands begin working to shove the peppermint pile back into rolled up tubeswith very limited success. We cant do it, Dad! protests the youngest child. An unforgettable impression is made as Dad explains that just as toothpaste cant go back into the tube, spoken words cannot be taken back.

Each session has a Life Slogan to assist family members in remembering the truths discussed, such as Choose a friend by his fruitnot by his suit. While the resource offers a full outline for each session, parents are encouraged to pick and choose which activities best fit their family. Both books discuss the basics of the Christian faith, with Book Two giving parents specific information for leading a child to a personal relationship with Christ.

Parents hoping to develop an on mission lifestyle in their families will benefit from the foundational principles of faith thoroughly discussed in each book. Each family member will be prepared to share the basis for his or her faith.
