In Awakenings, Henry Blackaby will be motivating readers to seek God through prayer, revival and spiritual renewal. Blackaby is special assistant to the president, North American Mission Board.

Background: A native of Canada, born April 15, 1935, in British Columbia. Father, a layman, was a church planter. In the United States, lived in California and Georgia.

Education: Bachelor of arts in English and history, University of British Columbia. Bachelor of divinity and master of theology degrees, Golden Gate Seminary. Two honorary doctorates from Hardin-Simmons University and Hannibal-LaGrange College.

First Job: As a teen-ager, worked for Coca-Cola for 50 cents an hour. First church-related job was as music/education director at Broadway Baptist Church in San Pablo, California.

Biggest Challenge: That "God may increase and I may decrease." Constant prayer is to maintain integrity with God and to discern how to respond to multitudes of requests.

Long-Range Goal: Revival and spiritual awakening in the United States and Canada through speaking, praying, enlisting, writing and mentoring.

Likes Most About Job: People-centered and God-centered. Also, working with God's very best.

Likes Least: Unexpected requests (up to 4,000 per year!) and having to say "no" to so many.

Favorite Scripture: John 5:17, 19-20, which is how he lives daily.

Hobbies: Reading, travel.

If I Could Change One Thing In My Life: I would make quality time with family and staff. However, from this perspective, I would not "redo" anything.
